Dined with GLing, LLing, SPing, SHoon, SHui, MEng, LGan

I somehow love this place as I subscribe to the fact that my palate seemed to enjoy the authentic korean meals here better than any of the korean restaurants that I have dined including Jung's other branches which fared below this flagship restaurant. My fren too agreed and in fact her husband was the one who drove the load of seven of us there describing that they often headed there whenever their huge party of about 30 family members visit them from Malaysia. Well the Korean private rooms there can at least accommodate their big turnouts and the splendid spread can simply satisfy one or the other.

The traditional flooring of the private room where one sits crossed leg on the floor without the drop floor hole for the feet rest seemed a bit daunting for the two hours plus we were were there cause we started to get edgy after a while, wanting to stretch the numbing feet or worry about any deep vein thrombosis or finding difficulty to rise up as we are less nimble to begin with.
The menu listed a variety of choices of meats to order from which we asked for 양념갈비 Yeongnyeom galbi Marinade Beef-Ribs, sirloin and pork colar as well as Bulgolgi which is raw beef marinated three hours with soya sauce, sesame oil, garlic, sugar, onions, blacks pepper and grated korean pear as the juice helps to to tenderise the meat.

The grilled beef ribs is the most tasty and shiok and you just simply wrapped the grilled slices in lettuce leaves with added ssamjang (쌈장) which is a sauce of fermented bean curd and red pepper paste plus garlic and green chilli and then popped the handful into the mouth in one bite. "How does it taste...sorry I cant talk"

As usual, the wide spread of panchan (반찬) which are small accompaniments with the served rice filled every space of the long table saved the grilled stove that sits in the centre for grilling the meats.
Kimchi is the most ubiquitous korean panchan dish that cannot be missed and perhaps well liked by many. The tray of very freshly kept (not picked I must say) vegetables is so green and appealing and the tray comes with green chili and garlic to eat together with the grilled meats.
However I still do not enjoy a bowl of served (미역국) miyeokguk - wakame soup as the seaweed taste comes with the taste of the ocean that I think will linger in my mouth a while after and I simply left that untouched.

Despite the generous serving of side dishes and forgetting that we cannot tuck in more, SPing ordered the (고등어구이) Grilled Saba Fish which is very fresh and delicious, kimchijeon, haemuljeon which are kimchi and seafood pancakes respectively. The pancakes particularly the seafood is well-liked by all. Topping this, there was also ginseng chicken soup and Jung Shin Jung at this west coast branch served very mean nice soup and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
고등어구이 Godeungkoee Grilled Saba Fish S$15.00
삼계탕 Samgeytang - ginseng chicken soup S$18.00

생불고기 SAENG BULGOGI - Raw Season Sliced Beef S$30.00

마늘등심 Manuel Deungsim Garlic Seasoned Sirloin $49.00

목살 MOKSAL - Pork collar S$22.00

김치전 kimchijeon - kimchi pancake S$20.00

We were kept busy eating so much that is laid there for the evening and we relish the satisfying meal that filled our growling stomachs earlier.
Through it all, we had so much whilst unwinding ourselves after work, thanks to SHoon and SPing who not only brought us there but offered to give us such a treat that we will not forget. Yes, I know there is that upcoming lunch which I cant join but note it wud be our pleasure to treat both of you next time.
As if this was not enough, SPing suggested we proceed for coffee at Clementi coffee shop (near Botak Jones).

Eating the tongue? I have a hard enough time twisting the names of the dishes --- miyeokguk, kimchijeon, haemuljeon --- around my tongue without worrying about that! :P

a hearty meal, and FOC? hahaha.. that's gotta be the icing on the cake.

Korean food started to grow on me, as I like my food BBQ'd, and the immense number of side dishes made it all better.

been some time since you've been blogging eh? :)

CK, we love Korean dramas and naturally gravitate towards Korean food.

Cumi, tongue in the cheek comment or real tongue. Next time I will ask for it.

KennyMah, yap ha du set...means one two three...learn from basic to twist your tongue first.
